Items#
What are Items?#
Items are pickups. Visually they look like Things, but when the Player walks over an Item, it gets picked up and added to the Player’s inventory. Like the Player and Things, Items always face the camera. You can have as many instances of an Item in the game as you want.
TIP: You can use fully transparent Items to make one-time-use invisible triggers!
If you set an Item to have a transparent Sprite, you can turn the Item into an invisible trigger that only happens once. Once the Player picks up the Item, the trigger is gone.
TIP: You can use Items as variables in your game!
If you want to simply keep track of a number, just make an Item, give it a name, and then don’t place that Item in the game. You can still make that Item count go up or down or set to a specific number, even if it’s not in the game.
Item Editor#
The Item Editor allows you to edit all the Items in your game. To edit an Item, just click on it from the Items tab.
You can change the name of the Item.
CAREFUL! Don’t get Items confused with Sprites that have the same name!
It’s easy to get the names of Items confused up with the names of Sprites! For example, you might have a Sprite called
coinand an Item calledcoin. It’s important to remember that they are two different things!
The Sprites for the Item will play in a loop, one after another. A new Item will always use the first Sprite in your Sprites list.
